You don’t have to go to a foreign country to help foreign people. We know many who have gone to Haiti, Guatemala, and other like countries to help for a week. We traveled from St. Peters, Missouri, to the Global Aid Network Distribution Center in Mount Joy, Pennsylvania, and felt similar joy. (GAiN Distribution Center) We went to help feed hungry people and complete projects that would benefit that goal.
If we wanted to help distribute the aid, we could join groups that go to the different designated countries. GAiN offers many trips to these places. (View 2013 Trip Schedule) We are not too old to be useful. Being in our 60’s makes us feel that we should let the younger groups go on the mission trips. We didn’t feel our age had any bearing on this experience.
Traveling with other Christians that are focused on the same goal is inspiring. We, as a team, helped each other to complete the needed tasks, prayed each day together, and heard each other’s stories about Calvary Church and their families. Getting to know our team members better has widened our church family.
Our trip was rewarding and worthwhile. We traveled to Pennsylvania on a leap of faith, not knowing what to expect or exactly where we were going. We knew God was in charge so we let him lead us in all of our decision-making dilemmas. The trip couldn’t have been more perfect because He directed it. Many memories were made including staying in a $25 per night roadside 50’s type motel and eating in a diner every morning for $1.19. We would never have chosen to do that, but it turned out to be an experience we’ll soon not forget.
