Jamaica

The mission trip continues to go well in Jamaica.  The team of high schoolers from LCBC are great!!
It is Thursday evening and we just finished day 4 of the VBS in Mammee River.  Ken Christian is the deacon in charge of the Mammee River church plant and he told me today that it is by far the best VBS they have run.  Many young people are coming to Christ. (And adults too!)
Yesterday after VBS the team ministered to kids in a public park in a very bad part of Kingston.  And this afternoon they met with the older kids in Mammee River for fun, food and sharing.  Many of the young people opened up with the team members.
Thanks for your prayers.  Please keep supporting us in prayer for one more day.  Blessings on you all.
It is Tuesday evening and we have just completed day 2 of the VBS at Mammee River near Kingston.  Things are going well.  Many young people, and adults, have been touched.  And there are many unchurched people attending.  Pray that God touches their heart and that they respond to the Good News.  The VBS runs all week.
After VBS today the team did a “walk about” and distributed food to poor families. They also had the chance to pray for them and be see how they live.  Tomorrow after VBS they are doing a ministry in a local park with kids that Campus Crusade has been trying to reach for the Lord.  I will let you know how it goes.
Thanks for your prayers.  Ask God to draw people into his Kingdom.
The youth team from LCBC arrived in Kingston yesterday evening and had a great trip.  This week they will be helping to conduct a VBS in the Mammee River church plant just outside of Kingston.
Today the team attending a very warm and very long service at the church in Mammee River. We can tell that the are excited about the week ahead.  This afternoon we visited the Jamaican National Children’s Home orphanage. The team put on a wonderful program and we had a delightful time interacting with the kids.
Tomorrow morning the VBS begins. We are expecting between 100-120 children from the community.  More later.  Thank you for your prayers.  Ask God to change lives.

We are coming the end of a wonderful week of ministry in Kingston Jamaica.  We have a team of 21 who have been hard at work.  Here is a list of our projects!  2 eye clinics where we checked the sight of 350 people; we painted tables, the walls of a new addition to the house behind the church at Mammee River and the walls of the house; distributed food bags to the poorest people in Mammee River (with some unbelievable climbs up the mountain side); visited an orphanage; ministered to kids in a public park; ministered to kids in Mammee River; and put together a book reading program for folks of all ages in the Mammee River church.  And of course we shared the good news of Jesus Christ is them all.  We know of at least 8 people of have come into God’s kingdom this week. For that we praise the Lord.

Thank you for your prayers. And we ask that you pray that we finish strong and that we have safe travels.  We will show pictures and share stories when we return.

Greetings from Cheryl and Jim Warner! With our girls Jamie and Janessa we led a one-week mission trip between Christmas and just into the new year to a very poor community just outside of Kingston. Jamaica.  We were joined by a great group of 17 participants.  We are partnering there with Mona Baptist church reaching out to the poor in their community and helping them with a church plant in Mammee River.  This small community is only minutes outside of Kingston and is very poor.  Most of the people there live at poverty level.

During our week there we conducted reading glass eye clinics in both churches, conducted activities for the children, did construction on a home that was damaged in the last hurricane, created game boards for the church children, visited an orphanage of around 50 children and helped serve a New Year’s Eve supper to the community at the church in Mammee River. And during the entire week we had the chance to share the Good News of Jesus to most of them. Let me share two specific stories.

During the last hurricane the small and humble home of a poor family in Mammee River was complete washed away. We decided to help build a new place for them to stay. It is the second level of her son’s home.  We started it on this trip and will complete the project on our next visit this coming March.  What a blessing to provide them with a new place to stay.

The second story involves a ministry opportunity that was unplanned. Dirk and Carrol Richards are the national directors of Campus Crusade for Christ in Jamaica. They just completed the construction of a playground in a local neighborhood and desire to start a ministry to the kids that come.  They asked us to give it a try. We set up craft tables and some games and before long we had almost 150 kids interacting with our team.  We then gathered them all together and I did a short magic show and presented the Gospel. We then presented them all with a small gift. It went so well.

We will be leading two addition teams in March. For the first trip we will be joined in Montego Bay by 30 great students from McKinney Christian Academy.  The second team will minister back in Kingston and participants will come from various locations in the US.  Please be praying that God does a mighty work during these two weeks.

We give all glory to God for what was done. Thank you for your prayers and support for our ministry.  It is because of you that we can take trips like this one.  May God richly bless you all.

Jim W., the team leader in Jamaica recently sent this email update:

The entire team is here and we just finished our second day of ministry. Yesterday we participated in the Sunday service at Mammee River.  Team members read scripture and sang a solo, Cheryl greeted the congregation and I preached. It was much fun.  We then did some sorting of the container contents. Today we ministered at an orphanage and did the last of the container sorting.

As reported by Jim W.:

We just completed our first day of ministry with team 3. We are conducting a modified vision clinic and are distributing aid.  It is a very good team.   Please pray that we have strength to finish strong and that the hearts and minds of people we talk to will be open to the Good News.

As reported by Jim W.:

We are just completing week two. The McKinney Christian Academy kids were fantastic.  The week was a great success in all ways and we give all the praise and thanks to God.  The kids travel home tomorrow afternoon.  And then on Saturday, week three folks arrive.  Please be praying as we conduct our scaled down vision clinic. We have added aid distribution and we are excited to see how God will use this team.

We completed our first week in Jamaica.  Our medical team saw over 400 patients in Kingston and had so many opportunities to share Christ.  We are now in Montego Bay with the students from McKinney Christian Academy. We have our first ministry day tomorrow.

(Thursday, March 6)

We just completed the last day of our medical clinic in Kingston Jamaica. It went so very well.  We were able to treat and bless just around 400 patients.  And we are donating a large supply of medications to the Mona Baptist Church in Kingston.  They work with a number of local doctors to conduct a medical clinic two days every week. The medications will be a huge blessings.

Thank you so much for your prayers.  Our next team comes into Montego Bay on Saturday. We have a group of high school students coming from McKinney Christian Academy near Dallas, Texas.

We just finished the second day of our medical mission in Jamaica. Over the first two days we have seen 180 patients. It has been a blessing to them and to our team members. Many touching stories have been told.

The first two days we worked out of Mona Baptist Church in Kingston. This church is near a very poor neighborhood.  Wednesday and Thursday we will be working out of a church plant in Mammee River. This is a very poor community just outside the city limits of Kingston.  Please pray that we can help them physically and that they will be open to the love of God and the Good News of Jesus.

Jamaica-medicine2.JPG(Monday, March 3)

We just completed our first day of medical clinic in Jamaica. It went very well. We say 80 patients with only our doctor. Tomorrow we have a Jamaican doctor working alongside Dr. Weston.  They tell us that more will come tomorrow. We are grateful to the Lord.

First a praise. The signatures were secured early this morning so our medical staff was working all day.  We are grateful.

Now the prayer. The prescription meds have not arrived from the Netherlands. This is unfortunate. However, the doctor is writing prescriptions and the folks will have to stop by later to pick up their meds.

Many lives were touched today, including many on the team. They are wonderful.
